Mette Sofie Roche, originally from North-Norway, has been living in Ireland for the past 30+ years, currently in a restored barn in Co. Meath, where she has a small studio.

Originally a hobby weaver and textile artist, strong traditions which she brought with her from Norway, she has attended evening courses in ceramic sculpture at Dunlaoghaire School of Art and weekend courses in watercolour painting with Pauline Bewick, renowned artist and watercolorists. Over the last few years she has attended evening classes with Marysia Harasimowicz in Dunboyne and in June/July 2008 life-drawing classes at Rossnaree, Co Meath.  Since September she has attended workshops at Studio 10, IMMA and Hugh Lane Gallery.

She completed an  Art Portfolio course at Dunboyne College of Further Education this year. 

She has been a member of the Old Schoolhouse Art Group in Dunboyne since its foundation in 2001 and of the Meath Arts Group since 2007.

She works in a variety of media, watercolour, Indian ink, soft pastel and acrylic as well as textile.  Her art is inspired by her love of nature, many long walks along the seashore or in the mountains and many hours spent working in and enjoying the garden.   Her working environment as a social worker can also be a source of inspiration.

Her paintings and artwork are in many private collections in Norway, England, Holland and Ireland and one commissioned painting is in a government office in Navan, Co. Meath.
